We were requested by the Postgraduate Training Company to organise a course on a current topic in the field of rheumatology, and due to the ever increasing number of the people above 50 we have chosen elderly inflammatory rheumatic diseases. As a part of the program a short film was produced showing how my colleagues carry out their everyday tasks at the Clinic. It was a great experience!

The half-hour video is about  inflammatory rheumatic diseases  of elder adults, their treatment in practice. The treatment is always complex, involving phsyiotherapy (exercises, massage and physicotherapeautic modalities) alongside medical therapy.

Inflammatory locomotor diseases may start in the elderly as well, they can be either age-related, or  elderly variations of adulthood diseases.

Globally, the aging population is skyrocketing. Successful aging has come into fashion. At the same time with their growing number the prevalence of their diseases has also risen significantly. Furthermore, the peak of the incidence of the adulthood diseases has also been pushed back  to the elder age.

With advancing age not only inflammatory but non-inflammatory rheumatic diseases (e.g. osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, soft tissue diseases etc,)  are becoming more common, and even association of internal medical illnesses occurs more frequently. Diagnosis and therapy in the case of co-existence of these morbidities are made even more difficult. The complex treatment depends on the phase of the disease, as well.

Let us draw your attention to the whole program. The speakers are highly renowned specialists. Lectures will be held on numerous topics, including ageing immunology,  autoimmune rheumatic diseases starting in the elderly, polymyalgia rheumatica and the associated vasculitis. Elderly patients are regarded as one complex whole, their everyday physical and mental activity is emphasised. Special topics are lymphedema and pulsed electromagnetic (BEMER)  therapy.

Pls. find the program attached.
